Mist

AA140114-Mistspace-t

Ever intrigued by the coastlines of Oregon this piece reflects a visit to Cannon Beach, where it seemed always to have been foggy when I visited there.

Seagulls were wading in the shallow water looking for food. Pillars of rock rising out of the mist suddenly received golden rays of the sun, breaking through the clouds.  Framed in a gold semi-ornate frame.

space-tEvocative of third eye consciousness, the mandallic painting brings together elements like the tree of life. Which eventually hooks up with a diatom, a plankton responsible for 80% of the oxygen on the planet.

A dolphin’s exit from the water and people playing in the waves, complete a circle of life.

The third eye (also known as the inner eye) is a mystical and esoteric concept referring to a speculative invisible eye which provides perception beyond ordinary sight. In certain dharmic spiritual traditions such as Hinduism, the third eye refers to the ajna, or brow, chakra.

The third eye refers to the gate that leads to inner realms and spaces of higher consciousness. In New Age spirituality, the third eye often symbolizes a state of enlightenment or the evocation of mental images having deeply personal spiritual or psychological significance.

The third eye is often associated with religious visions, clairvoyance, the ability to observe chakras and auras, precognition, and out-of-body experiences. People who are claimed to have the capacity to utilize their third eyes are sometimes known as seers.

In some traditions as Hinduism the third eye is said to be located around the middle of the forehead, slightly above the junction of the eyebrows.

In other traditions, as in Theosophy, it is believed to be connected with the pineal gland. According to this theory, humans had in far ancient times an actual third eye in the back of the head with a physical and spiritual function. Over time, as humans evolved, this eye atrophied and sunk into what today is known as the pineal gland.

space-tDriving south on the Oregon coast I noticed a pullover lookout spot and turned in.

There was a magnificent overlook of two bays and rock pinnacles. I was so moved by this view that I decided I would have to paint this.

To The painting I added fog and a coastline that would carry you far into the distance. I also included pelicans and in the foreground, sea lions. From Bodega Bay California, I added the ice plants and rock formations
to the foreground.

Cannon Beach Mist

AA140131-CBMist

I’ve had a long time enchantment with the Oregon coast.

space-tHaystack rock, a local prominent landmark, is home to many seabirds including puffins.

No one is allowed to hike on the rock to preserve the nesting sites. One can walk on the wet sand for miles when the tide is low.

Morning in Ulupalakua

Morning Ulupalakua

AA140115-MUlu

space-tA companion piece to Evening in Ulupalakua, morning presents a different view looking across the whole of the island.

In the front right one can see the old dirt road that was closed in the early 80s. Below is the Coast of Kihei, and popular beaches.

On the right we can see the central Maui Valley Isthmus and the North shore coastline.  Towards the top we see the West Maui Mountains, another volcano. The two volcanoes merged to become one island millions of years ago.

Isle Pacifica

AA140109-Pacifica

space-t

“For years I was fascinated with the north shore cliffs of Molokai Island, Hawaii, which are the world’s tallest sea cliffs (3,300 feet high).”

“A 3-day yacht trip along this coast with friends helped to solidify my intention to paint this major oil.”

space-tWidely considered to be the tallest sea cliffs in the world, the Molokai sea cliffs are between 3,000 and 4,000 feet high and are located along the island’s north coast.

The Molokai sea cliffs are the result of the Makanalua Penninsula falling into the sea due to the erosion from the seawater pounding away at its base.  What you see now – all 14 miles of it – is what was left standing after the collapse.  The sea cliffs themselves are a deep, velvety emerald green and during wet seasons you can see waterfalls coursing down to the ocean.

Evening in Ulupalakua

Evening Ulupalakua

AA140103-EUlu

space-tFrom my home in Maui, I could walk to this view in five minutes.

The eucalyptus tree seen in the foreground is not a native Tree to Hawaii.

Situated in the middle of 22,000 acre Ulupalakua cattle Ranch, great views including Makena Beach, La Perouse Bay and the islands of Kahoolawe  and Molokini can be seen in the distance.

Bird of Change

Bird of Change

AA140102-Bird

I found the bird had been killed by a cat where I lived in the islands (Camano Island, Washington) this cat was a very good hunter and just killed the bird for sport and left it. I felt so bad that this poor bird died in vain that I placed it on an old stump and painted it right there.

Living on the island there was great nature all around me and the people were nice.

Plein Aire type of painting is where the artist takes his paint, brushes and canvas out in the field to paint the scene from life.
