Dance of Life

AA220905-Dancespace-t

In dance of life we are wandering through many dance traditions to realizing our very own dance in life.

Starting in the front we only see a woman’s head, she is the Mystery dancer, continuing on the Las Vegas showgirl dancer, the Hawaiian and Balanese dancer on one of the trees of life, then we have the go-go dancer and the snake dancer from South America and then the Polish ballerina and lastly the ghost dancer.

In addition, megalithic sculptures from Egypt, then toward more western columns a soaring sunset and the top of the building actually becomes clouds and sky with a rolling ocean below.

A nice ocean swell on a beautiful beach and we are off into the sunset, part of my world is actually upside down underneath, Egypt!

Canefire – Peter Moon Band

AA220904-0827x-Canefire

space-t
The owner of Pannini records came to me and said he would like me to do the cover for a band that he was publishing which was the Peter Moon band.

The album cover name was cane fire. My research started with procuring some sugarcane and borrowing a guitar and putting the two together in my studio into a surrealistic interpretation of “cane fire”.

The album cover was nominated for cover design of the year. The Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, occasionally called the Na Hoku or Hoku Awards, are the premier music awards in Hawaii and are the Hawaiian equivalent of the Grammy Awards.

“Na Hoku Hanohano” means “Stars of Distinction” in Hawaiian – “hoku” means “star”, “na” makes it plural, and “hanohano” means “glorious, worthy of praises”.

The awards were founded in 1978 by radio personality Krash Kealoha of KCCN-AM, a radio station which focused on traditional Hawaiian music in the islands.

Bridge of Mana

AA220903-Manaspace-t

The rainbow warrior tradition is part of of the shamans journey in worldwide shamanic traditions.

The array of colors from red to violet, is the bridge between the higher and lower natures, heaven and earth.

We are on a “pier” beginning in the foreground with “new life” symbolized by the flowers and baby. Life goes on and the face of the old philosopher heralds the eye on to a group of people focusing on bringing a bolt of lightening down to earth.

This is a group effort and shows the power of group mental telepathy.

Goddess of Santorini

AA220911-Santorini

As a result of my visit to Greece I created a painting, upon my return, called the Goddesses of Santorini.

The village I visited, Santorini, is situated on the left of the painting and the bottom is a young man who strives to be a part of the of the goddess and the goddess is huge. The goddess spans the ocean and even connects with the sun itself.

The island had an ancient site I visited called Akrotirii, a Minoan Bronze Age settlement on the volcanic Greek island of Santorini (Thera).

The settlement was destroyed in the Theran eruption about 1500 BC and buried in volcanic ash, which preserved the remains of fine Frescoes and many objects and artworks. The site has been excavated since 1967.

The settlement has been suggested as a possible inspiration for Plato’s story of Atlantis, which inspired me after I toured the site, and walked its ancient streets.

space-tI envisioned that during the war of the Titans, Poseidon could have lost his urn.

In Greek mythology the Titanomachy, or War of the Titans, was the ten-year series of battles which were fought in Thessaly between the two camps of deities long before the existence of mankind: the Titans, based on Mount Othrys and the Olympians, who would come to reign on Mount Olympus. This Titanomachia is also known as the Battle of the Titans, Battle of Gods, or just The Titan War.

Poseidon is one of the twelve Olympian deities of the pantheon in Greek mythology. His main domain is the ocean and he is called the “God of the Sea”. Additionally, he is referred to as “Earth-Shaker” due to his role in causing earthquakes and has been called the “tamer of horses”. He is usually depicted as an older male with curly hair and beard.

The name of the sea-god Nethuns in Etruscan was adopted in Latin for Neptune in Roman mythology; both were sea gods analogous to Poseidon. Linear B tablets show that Poseidon was venerated at Pylos and Thebes in pre-Olympian Bronze Age Greece as a chief deity, but he was integrated into the Olympian gods as the brother of Zeus and Hades. According to some folklore, he was saved by his mother Rhea, who concealed him among a flock of lambs and pretended to have given birth to a colt, which was devoured by Cronos.

There is a Homeric hymn to Poseidon, who was the protector of many Hellenic cities, although he lost the contest for Athens to Athena. According to the references from Plato in his dialogue Timaeus and Critias, the island of Atlantis was the chosen domain of Poseidon.

Life Force

AA130110-LifeForce

By far the quirkyist  marine piece I have painted to date!

The idea is the ocean sea bursting out of the dry desert, a kind of Surrealistic notion applied to Marine art.

Also, many deserts were formally under the ocean. Here again, putting unassociated objects together for creativity and beauty.

Guardians of the Grail

GuardiansOfTheGrail-2

From the Lost World Series

Amidst the very essence of Medieval art and Gothic architecture, the curiously ellusive Grail myth is represented. According to tradition, Arthur was crowned King of Britain and soon after founded the Circle of the Round Table, its shape reflecting eternal perfection because the table had no beginning and no end. Twelve guardian Dolphins symbolize the Knights each so great in dignity and power that none could occupy a more escalated seat than another.

space-tThe Knights fall silent. Trembling just out of reach, the radiant chalice looms above the Knights. The Grail is the symbol of purity, faith, heroism and charity; that ultimate perfection which allures those who struggle and rewards those who attain. The search is the Divine drama of the Soul, in which the Self as a hero goes through the experiences of the lower life, contending against ignorance and evil and releasing the higher qualities held captive by the lower. The Dolphins surround the sacred table, as “Guardians of the Grail”.
