Dolphin Dream

Dolphin-Dream

My first major endeavor of marine painting

This colorful scene depicts a family of dolphins frolicking in the waters south of the Hawaiian Islands at sunset.

Studying the sea, one can discern the Kaimana, or “diamonds” that form on the ocean from the sun being at a particular angle. Kaimana means “power of the ocean” in Hawaiian. It is also the Hawaiian transcription of the English word diamond.

On the left can be seen the two great mountains rising from the big Island of Hawaii, Mauna Kea, the highest mountain on earth if measured from it’s base underneath the Pacific ocean floor and Mauna loa, which contains the greatest volume or mass of any mountain in the world.

On the right is seen  the island of Maui with the dominant volcano of Haleakala rising from the clouds.

We are looking westward into the sunset toward the island of Oahu, which cannot be seen here and rarely in person.

Guardians of the Grail

GuardiansOfTheGrail-2

From the Lost World Series

Amidst the very essence of Medieval art and Gothic architecture, the curiously ellusive Grail myth is represented. According to tradition, Arthur was crowned King of Britain and soon after founded the Circle of the Round Table, its shape reflecting eternal perfection because the table had no beginning and no end. Twelve guardian Dolphins symbolize the Knights each so great in dignity and power that none could occupy a more escalated seat than another.

space-tThe Knights fall silent. Trembling just out of reach, the radiant chalice looms above the Knights. The Grail is the symbol of purity, faith, heroism and charity; that ultimate perfection which allures those who struggle and rewards those who attain. The search is the Divine drama of the Soul, in which the Self as a hero goes through the experiences of the lower life, contending against ignorance and evil and releasing the higher qualities held captive by the lower. The Dolphins surround the sacred table, as “Guardians of the Grail”.

Jewel of Amrita

AA122303-Amrita

JEWEL of AMRITA reveals the ancient Cambodian metropolis of Angkor Wat, recognized as the third largest monument in the world.

A race known as the Khymers inhabited this complex, originating a style of architecture unrivaled in grandeur and scale even by the Pharoahs of Egypt.

Within the magical and essential waterways of this civilization, Annenberg envisions its monumental ruins.

The Hindu and Buddhist foundation in the Khymer architecture present the promise of eternal prosperity and happiness.

The legendary god-mountain, the stepped pyramidal structures, symbolize divine origin and absolute power.

Four enormous faces crowning the foreground tower communicate in physical and spiritual substance the onmipotence of the earthly and heavenly ruler.

A prominent Hindu creation myth is dramatized in the array of these sculptural friezes. Supernatural forces join together, churning the world mountain (pyramid) in the primal void of “Sea of Milk” (ocean) producing the drink of immortality, a mythic ambrosia called “Amrita”.

The “Jewel of Amrita”; the light of life, abides within the god-mountain at the center of the universe. The guardians of earth, sea, and sky preserve and send this archetypal message to all who observe.

Portal of Hunab-Ku

PortalOfHunabKu

space-tHunab Ku (Mayan) The One Giver of Movement and Measure. The principle of life. An all-pervading conscious energy that manifests the rhythm and form of our universe.

Portal – Mystic Doorway

Deep beneath the sea a light pulses and emanates the life force of a benevolent consciousness. Dolphins and a myriad of sea life bask in its creative energies streaming forth from Mayan pyramid ruins. They rejoice in their connection with this ancient intelligence.
The Mayan mythology of creation speaks of Kuxan Suum (Kooshon Soom) a pathway of cosmic resonance to the sky. It travels through the sun, going past our galaxy and to the center of our universe, to the source of all movement and measure, to Hunab Ku.

In the early 70’s, I traveled extensively through Mexico, focusing on the Yucatan pyramid sites.
Visiting Palenque, I climbed to the top of the Temple of the Inscriptions, walked into the pyramid, found the open door with descending stairs. Dank and dark, I came upon archeologists working at the bottom of the chamber. It was the Tomb of Pacal Votan, a great leader in the Mayan’s ancient past.

Through my contact with Jose Arguelles and all he shared of his creative research, I offer special thanks. Jose brought the life-changing awareness to our modern culture that “Time is not money. Time is Art.”

Aqueous Atlantis

AQUEOUS ATLANTIS

Nearly three months in the making, “AQUEOUS ATLANTIS” by Andrew Annenberg is a masterful work that portrays the ancient civilization of Atlantis, covered by the silent depths of the ocean. The aqueous ruins are now a gathering place for the dolphins. They circle images of themselves portrayed lovingly by the Atlanteans in a mosaic floor and swim toward the light energy emitted from a gold-capped pyramid.

As we look closer, drawn in toward the light, we are there, aware of a powerful presence.

Andrew Annenberg’s work has been described as visionary realism. His meticulous rendering of details enables one to travel on a journey into the painting’s world. “AQUEOUS ATLANTIS” is a shining example of the transformative power of Annenberg’s art.

Months of travel, exploring sites of ancient civilizations, especially those of Italy and Greece, as well as extensive research in mythology and archeology, enable Mr. Annenberg to create ‘visions’ of great integrity. Nothing seems out of place or unusual, although nothing is ‘real’.

The painting was inspired by many experiences, the trance readings of Edgar Cayce, visiting ruins of a dolphin mosaic floor from an ancient private home called “House of the Dolphins” on the island of Delos, Greece…visits to the numerous sites of pillars still standing long after the buildings they supported have crumbled…sharing the ocean depths swimming with dolphins surrounded by coral reefs…and mysterious stories from divers, such as Dr. Ray Brown.

Such is the stuff of inspiration. Annenberg had intended for the pillars of Atlantis to reside amidst underseas mountains. With the watery void on canvas – pillars and mosaic and dolphins in place – a pyramid came into his vision. A long-forgotten memory of a fantastic story took shape, Atlantis was discovered.
