Autumn

AA140126-Autumn_space-t

Autumn is one of my favorite times of the year and presents the most beautiful colors of nature.

This is a composite of one of my favorite walks. In Autumn, certain Oak trees are really quite colorful and if there has been an early rain the hills turn green and colorful mushrooms emerge.

One can often spot jackrabbits in hurry to enjoy an evening meal.

Clown Fish

AA130104-Clown

This painting was a direct result from a scuba diving experience. We stayed for quite a while on the bottom of the sea so I could observe this clown fish in it’s natural environment.  Watching the fish helped me portray what you see on the canvas.

Scuba diving was a big enhancement of observation during the marine painting era of the 80s.  What a big help to be in the actual habitat  of your star, with all the colors dancing around you.

Sea Wise

AA130119-Sea-Wisespace-t

I envisioned myself under the water with the dolphins and with scuba diving I could study how it looked. I imagined what it would look like for a dolphin to be breaking the underwater while speckled light played on them. I sensed their high intelligence and awareness and wanted to convey that.

Place of Sanctuary

AA130118-Place-of-Sanctuary

I have visited this amazing place a number of times, always fascinated by the history and location.

I started the first sketches out on the lava flow in front of the heiah, and soon started the oil painting. I omitted any other newer houses along the shoreline.

space-tPuʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park is a United States National Historical Park located on the west coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.

The historical park preserves the site where, up until the early 19th century, Hawaiians who broke a kapu (one of the ancient laws) could avoid certain death by fleeing to this place of refuge or puʻuhonua. The offender would be absolved by a priest and freed to leave.

Defeated warriors and non-combatants could also find refuge here during times of battle. The grounds just outside the Great Wall that encloses the puʻuhonua were home to several generations of powerful chiefs.

The park contains a reconstruction of the Hale O Keawe heiau, which was originally built by a Kona chief named Kanuha in honor of his father King Keaweʻīkekahialiʻiokamoku. It was believed that additional protection to the place of refuge was received from the mana in the bones of the chiefs. It survived several years after other temples were destroyed.

Humpback and Baby

AA130109-Humpbackspace-t

We are underwater seeing the Humpback mother whale and baby above.

Females typically breed every two or three years. The gestation period is 11.5 months, yet some individuals have been known to breed in two consecutive years. The peak months for birth are January, February, July, and August, with a one to two year period between humpback births. They are from 1 to 2 tons at birth (13 to 16 ft. in length), and can live up to 48 years.

Mist

AA140114-Mistspace-t

Ever intrigued by the coastlines of Oregon this piece reflects a visit to Cannon Beach, where it seemed always to have been foggy when I visited there.

Seagulls were wading in the shallow water looking for food. Pillars of rock rising out of the mist suddenly received golden rays of the sun, breaking through the clouds.  Framed in a gold semi-ornate frame.

The Enchantment

AA220922-Enchant

space-tThis painting incorporates many elements of the Celtic culture and the magical Fairy realms. Tiny fairies make up the twirling colors of the rainbow.

Part of this painting reveals Merlin’s triumphant emergence from a crystal cave, where he was trapped by a magic spell.  While he slept the world of Camelot struggled in darkness without his guidance and influence. Ultimately it was the power of love that brought him back.

The rainbow colors below the cauldron form a stem, pouring forth the vibrational attributes that merge heavenly elements into the earth. A god dips the tiny men into the cauldron and they emerge as higher, more aware beings who possess the powers of divine vision, becoming God-men.

The village girl near the oak tree comes as a representation of Ipona, Goddess of the horses, bringing her cornucopia of abundant fruits to the land and the people.

“This latest painting speaks of the beauty and wonder of another era of times past, in my series of Lost Worlds.”

space-tIn this version, Oberon is the king of all the fairies in William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, who is feuding with his wife Titania, the queen of the fairies. They are fighting over a changeling child that Oberon wants to raise as his aide. Titania wants to keep the child because he is the child of Titania’s mortal follower who died and she wants to raise the child for her follower.

Oberon tricks Titania into loving Bottom, using a special flower that makes you meet true love at first sight. Furious that Titania will not give him the child, he puts juice from a magical flower into her eyes while she is asleep.

The effect of the juice is that it will cause Titania to fall in love with the first thing she sees. Titania awakens and finds herself madly in love with Bottom, a weaver that has been given a donkey’s head by Puck.

Meanwhile, two couples have entered the forest: lovers Hermia and Lysander are pursued by Demetrius, who also loves Hermia and Helena, who loves Demetrius.

Oberon sends Puck to put some of the juice in Demetrius’s eyes to make him fall in love with Helena, after he witnesses him rejecting her. When Puck puts the love potion on Lysander by mistake and then on Demetrius, Helena finds herself loved by two men and confusion breaks out.

After Puck straightens out what he has done, and Demetrius discovers that he is really in love with Helena after all, Oberon looks upon Titania and her lover, Bottom and feels sorry for what he has done.

He reverses the spell and when Titania awakes the two reunite. This is where Annenbergs vision begins, when Oberon and Titania reunite in Love, all the fairies and elves celebrate their love.

space-tEvocative of third eye consciousness, the mandallic painting brings together elements like the tree of life. Which eventually hooks up with a diatom, a plankton responsible for 80% of the oxygen on the planet.

A dolphin’s exit from the water and people playing in the waves, complete a circle of life.

The third eye (also known as the inner eye) is a mystical and esoteric concept referring to a speculative invisible eye which provides perception beyond ordinary sight. In certain dharmic spiritual traditions such as Hinduism, the third eye refers to the ajna, or brow, chakra.

The third eye refers to the gate that leads to inner realms and spaces of higher consciousness. In New Age spirituality, the third eye often symbolizes a state of enlightenment or the evocation of mental images having deeply personal spiritual or psychological significance.

The third eye is often associated with religious visions, clairvoyance, the ability to observe chakras and auras, precognition, and out-of-body experiences. People who are claimed to have the capacity to utilize their third eyes are sometimes known as seers.

In some traditions as Hinduism the third eye is said to be located around the middle of the forehead, slightly above the junction of the eyebrows.

In other traditions, as in Theosophy, it is believed to be connected with the pineal gland. According to this theory, humans had in far ancient times an actual third eye in the back of the head with a physical and spiritual function. Over time, as humans evolved, this eye atrophied and sunk into what today is known as the pineal gland.

Venus Enthralled

AA220929-VenusE

When I painted this, I was intrigued by still photographs of women with their wet hair flying.

The Surrealist approach is to put objects together that would be out of context, and this is what I have done here. Water and desert come together. At first sight the trees look like trees but look again: they are elephants. If you look close, a face lies hidden in the central area.
