Alien Chambers | AA01023g | Andrew Annenberg

A Vision Shared

Like many Abstract works or the “inkblot test”, this peek into Andrew’s mind will mean to you what it inspires within you.

This is not meant to be a puzzle or riddle.

Rather it is important to understand that the artist may not have a specific goal in the creation of an image that we can understand, or that he or she can explain.

Many times, the artist is just releasing an image, a peek into the colors, shapes, pools, and eddies of the emotion(s) they see, and feel in ways others do not.

This is why many of us enjoy art, this journey into the mind of an artist by way of profound use of colors, styles and visual mediums.

One Possible Interpretation…

In this unique painting, Andrew shares a vision that brings memories of the original Star Trek, second season, episode 6 “The Doomsday Machine”. This could be the last thing the inhabitants of a planet might see before the end.

Note the intense energy at the near center of the painting, a sort of mouth or lips coming off from the right of the near center. It’s almost intoxicatingly inviting. I especially love the orange whiskers around the mouth like a sea anemone, with the more dramatic flair at the upper left of the scene.

It feels like you are past the entrance of the mouth and around you are seeing to the right and left of you the walls of the machine’s mouth. Very colorful for example see the left of center patterns and colors in contrast to those at the upper left or lower right. Each corner showing us the “eerie” aftermath of previously eaten (now destroyed) planets.

.

A peek at Star Trek, “The Doomsday Machine“;

Written by Norman Spinrad and directed by Marc Daniels, “The Doomsday Machine” was broadcast first on October 20, 1967.

The A.V. Club gave the episode an “A” rating, describing the episode as “very strong stuff”, while TV guide 30th anniversary, applauded “The Doomsday Machine” rating it at No. 4 on its list of the “10 best” Star Trek episodes.
